Washington state is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Pacific Northwest (and the whole world, in my opinion!), making it an ideal location for an elopement. From stunning beaches to majestic mountains, Washington has plenty of beautiful spots for an intimate wedding ceremony. Here are some of the best places to elope in Washington state.
Olympic National Park is a natural wonderland with its diverse landscapes, including temperate rainforests, alpine meadows, and rugged coastlines. It’s the perfect location for couples who want a unique and unforgettable elopement experience. You can exchange vows at Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, Ruby Beach, or on one of the park’s many scenic trails.
The San Juan Islands are a group of islands located off the coast of Washington, known for their stunning beauty and serene atmosphere. They offer an idyllic setting for an intimate wedding or elopement, with their picturesque beaches, rolling hills, and stunning sunsets. You can exchange vows on a private beach or at one of the island’s many scenic overlooks.
The Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge is just as beautiful as the Oregon side, and is chock full of fantastic hiking trails and absolutely stunning views, not only of the gorge itself, but also surrounding mountains, like Hood. Some of my personal favorite trails exist on the Washington side of the Gorge, and there are seemingly endless possibilities for a memorable, breathtaking backdrop for an elopement.
Mount Rainier National Park is a majestic mountain landscape with its snow-capped peak, glaciers, and alpine meadows. It’s the perfect location for a romantic elopement, with its stunning vistas and tranquil setting. You can exchange vows at Paradise, Sunrise, or on one of the park’s many hiking trails. It can be an ideal spot for catching epic wildflower displays and is easiest to access in the summer months (July-September) after snow has melted from most of the trails.
North Cascades National Park is a wilderness wonderland with its rugged peaks, alpine lakes, and lush forests. It’s the perfect location for couples who want a secluded and intimate elopement experience. You can exchange vows at Diablo Lake, Ross Lake, or on one of the park’s many hiking trails. And though it may *seem* like you have to go for an all-day, intense backcountry hiking excursion to fully enjoy this spot, you really don’t! There’s tons of low key and easily accessible areas, and you could even consider something like a spot in the Methow Valley which sits on the eastern slopes of the North Cascades with little towns like Mazama and Winthrop that have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
This spot is excellent for a number of reasons, including the fact that it’s actually pretty dang close to Seattle. Just 30 minutes from downtown, and about 40 from the airport, Snoqualmie Falls is an excellent option for an accessible elopement with a great payoff. To top it off, there’s a beautiful and cozy inn at the top of the falls, Salish Lodge, where you can stay the night, get ready on your elopement day, and even enjoy a very nice post-elopement dinner. This is a pretty idyllic place for getting into nature while also staying close to amenities.
Mount Adams sits in the southern part of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and I believe it’s an under-appreciated mountain, especially when it comes to elopements. It can take a bit more effort/time to get to, but it’s worth it! It’s Washington’s second highest peak after Mount Rainier, and shares similarly beautiful scenery.
Washington state offers an abundance of breathtaking locations for an elopement. Whether you’re looking for a serene beach or a majestic mountain landscape, Washington has it all. These locations are just a few of the many stunning places to elope in Washington state. Whatever location you choose, make sure to savor the moment and create memories that will last a lifetime.
