Story time! Let me illustrate for you just how resilient 2020 wedding couples have been…
If there was a couple who had a roller coaster of a ride in planning a 2020 wedding, it was Merrill + Ben. First, their engagement session was affected by the COVID-19 lockdowns in Washington state. When we were finally able to get their engagement photos done (and oh my, was the wait worth it! Such a wonderful experience!), they soon thereafter heard that their original wedding venue was having to change all their regulations and guest list allowances to the point where Merrill and Ben could no longer have the wedding they originally hoped for. Ultimately, they were forced to switch venues. Then, yet again another hiccup: Washington announced that receptions were no longer allowed, and only outdoor ceremonies could move forward. So, their venue changed yet again and the whole wedding experience had to be shortened and downsized. All of these changes happened over the course of just a couple months. Talk about stress!
But through all of this, they acted with grace, kindness, patience, and an unrelenting excitement at the reality of getting to marry their favorite person.
Merrill found a beautiful viewpoint park to have their ceremony in, and we decided that we’d spend some time after their ceremony focusing on the two of them and getting some beautiful, memorable portraits. And it was absolutely perfect. The ceremony was graced with a cloudy, moody, very PNW vibe leading into a dramatic, stormy sky during group portraits that then transformed into the most magical golden hour during their couple’s portraits. It was like the sky was celebrating with us, revealing all the best light at all the right moments and playing out the entirety of Merrill and Ben’s journey getting to that day – some struggle and darkness in the beginning, but always with the underlying perseverance that ultimately lead to a bright and joyous outcome. It was pure magic.
Lots of folks helped get Merrill and Ben to this day. Check them out below and then enjoy the photos!
