When Raechel + Nick first reached out to me about photographing their wedding, they shared a friggin’ adorable proposal story, how much they love the outdoors, and how awesome their dog, Violet, is. Then, we talked about the fact that their venue was The Orchard in Hood River – a dream venue with a crystal clear view of not only Mt. Hood, but also Mt. Adams. Add on top of all that, they wanted to do a hiking adventure for their engagement session – I knew these were my kind of people!
Like so many couples in 2020, Raechel and Nick’s original wedding plans got put through the wringer. With COVID restrictions for Oregon forcing them to reduce their already modest guest list, and the fact that most of Nick’s family were all on the East Coast, their wedding day looked very different than originally planned.
Even so, they handled all the ups and downs with such grace, and their family and friends – both physically present and from afar – made the day incredibly special. From sincere – and hilarious – voice recordings from Nick’s family members, to a live personalized music performance from a close friend, to a perfectly blue sky day that made the already dramatic mountains turn even more epic at sunset…it was a stunning and memorable day.
Oh, and did I mention that Violet made an appearance, too? Every wedding is better with a dog!
All in all, this wedding felt like exactly what everyone present needed – a gathering of loved ones (safely masked), great food, loads of fresh air, and joyous celebrations all around.
